The external debt of Uzbekistan makes up about 16% of GDP. This was noted by Vice Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Rustam Azimov at the yeasterday meeting of the Uzbek-Tajik intergovernmental commission for trade and economic cooperation.
“Today, Uzbekistan’s internal debt is zero, and the external is about 16% of GDP,” said Azimov.
He also noted that since 2000 Uzbekistan’s GDP in dollar terms increased by more than 5 times. Since 2005, it retained a positive balance of trade and balance of payments, as well as a steady surplus of the state budget.
